Country of Origin

by Chikashi

When I was about to prepare squid cooked in its ink, I noticed the label on the packet of frozen squid purchased from our favourite fish monger.

For purposes of international trade, country of origin is usually defined as the country in which substantial transformation or the greatest addition of value (or is it the addition of greatest value?) took place.  The concept is not always intuitive or straightforward.
